Chic-a Swatches: Which Is Your Favorite?

04 Dec 2014 / 0 Comments / in Good News and Knitting, News & Updates/by Joanna

Every so often, I get requests to see all the Chic-a prints. The main reason for this is to see all the prints in one place and pick your favorite. I realize it is hard to click through all the colors on the website, so let’s have this post serve as our swatch page.

We currently have eight colors available: Chic-a Black, Chic-a Pink, Zebra, Martinique Yellow, Cherries, Strawberries and Wild Flower.

Naturally, I am partial to the Chic-a Pink, but I also like the vibrant and rich colors of the Wild Flower. The Chic-a Black is timeless. The Cherries, Strawberries and Zebra patterns add a bit of fun and added color. Martinique Yellow is so happy, and who can resist the thought of tropical vacation!

Three colors have been retired: Black Fleur, Butterflies and Martinique Blue.

There are still items available in these colors, but quantities are limited… please check availability when ordering. A couple additional colors will be retired next year to make room for some new ones.

I have been busy picking new prints, and have some other ideas up my sleeve… so stay tuned. 2015 is shaping up to be an exciting year!

A Weekend at Yarnosphere

09 Oct 2014 / 0 Comments / in Fun things in the Knitting World, News & Updates/by Joanna

This last weekend I did the Yarnosphere Show in Long Beach, CA. This is the second year for the show, and it was nice to do it again. I particularly love the show’s mascot, Shirley Wool!

Patty Nance of Bargello-KnittingTM and I teamed up and created a kit, the Starry Night Cowl Kit. Patty also had samples from her book on display in the booth. It was so nice to have her in the booth, and she was a great help since my family was not able to come help at the show. The kits were a great success, and I even got one to make. Patty got me started, so I think this will be a fun, quick project to work on.

Our neighbors at the show were Mette and Sue from Ranch of the Oaks. I first “met Mette” at Stitches in 2011. Ever since then, we love having booths next to each other. Her ranch raises alpacas, and also has a mill for producing yarn. The yarn is lovely and soft, and the natural colors are beautiful. Needless to say, her booth was a busy spot during the show.

On the other side of our booth was Yarn Del Sol from Mission Viejo, CA. Rosemary and her team of fun ladies had a beautiful booth filled with great yarn, needles and patterns. Their specially dyed Lorna’s Laces colors were so fun, and represent a Southern California palette very well. It was also wonderful to reconnect with Rosemary and get a glimpse of her store in her booth. I am looking forward to visiting her store in the near future!

Across from us was Alexa from Oink Pigments. Her yarn is so vibrant! I still love the one that is turquoise and orange called Goldfish Bowl. I have a skein of it and plan to make a scarf to wear with jeans. Alexa bought a Single Yarn Keeper and started using it right away, which was super cool. She is making a log cabin baby blanket. It was great fun to have a booth near her again as well.

The show was well attended, and it seemed that everyone was having a good time despite the 100-degree weather outside. At least the inside was air-conditioned and cool. I did feel for Barbra and Maridee of the Yarnover Truck since it was so hot outside: They would take turns coming inside to cool down, but luckily the heat didn’t deter people from going out and visiting the truck.

There were classes going on throughout the two days, along with raffles and book signings. It was fun to be a part of this event again this year. Caroline and Amy have done a great job organizing it. Most of the vendors are from the Southern California area, which really makes it a local, homegrown show. I am looking forward to next year’s Yarnosphere — the dates are supposed to be announced soon!

Crochet is everywhere… even in the trees

18 Sep 2014 / 0 Comments / in Crochet, News & Updates/by Joanna

I have often read articles and seen pictures of graffiti knitting (also known as yarn bombing, yarn storming, kniffiti or urban knitting). I thought it was an interesting, but crazy idea because of all the work that goes into it. Well, a few days ago I saw my first one in person!

Do I think about yarn too much? Now I’m seeing it in the trees!

The other morning, I was in downtown Santa Barbara to have coffee with my fellow seventh grade moms. I was driving to the parking garage when I saw this spread of crocheted items tied to trees and inside of a sculpture. Wow! It was pretty neat.

The funny thing was that I had just spent the night before with a group of friends in a new crochet group. I haven’t done crochet in awhile, then all of the sudden I was feeling surrounded by it! I wonder how long it has been there.

I knew I had to get a picture, so I parked the car and headed over. It looks like a colorful spider web. The morning sun gave it a really neat look… almost like clothes drying out on clothesline. I snapped my pictures as business people gave me strange looks.

Feeling satisfied, I walked to the restaurant and met a bunch of ladies who I am sure are going to become good friends!

Chic-a Gets a New Warehouse

27 Aug 2014 / 0 Comments / in News & Updates/by Joanna
Last weekend, we transitioned from our existing warehouse to one closer to our home. The people in the neighboring businesses (it’s in an office park) couldn’t be more kind and welcoming to us… I think we’re going to like it here!
There is still a lot of work to be done. I’m grateful for the upcoming three-day weekend to fully unpack and get more organized. But we’ve been able to take and fill orders without missing a beat. We have our moving team to thank for that. These work colleagues of my husband have a moving business on the side, and they are also part of a local soccer team called Leones Negros.
Great guys and great movers!

Great guys, amazing movers!

We’ve updated the info on our Facebook page, but our new address is:
