Original Knittsters

28 Apr 2014 / 4 Comments / in Knitting/by Chic-a

I’ve been falling madly in love with vintage intarsia and graphic novelty knitted sweaters. They’re simply adorable, and so stylish that it almost makes me wish California were colder. Almost.

One of the coolest things about these vintage sweaters is how you could customize them to your personality—like the saxophone one (if you’re musical), or the one covered in boys’ names (if you, um, date a lot). It makes me want to customize one—or ten—for myself. The animal prints are cute, too.

What print would you choose for your novelty sweater? And can you knit intarsia style?

Boyette’s Baby-Sized Knits

16 Apr 2014 / 0 Comments / in Fun things in the Knitting World/by Chic-a

I’m a sucker for anything miniature-sized, so of course I fell in love with these adorable little knitted pieces from Katie Boyette of CaffaKnitted.

Katie, a resident of Boone, NC, and a “baker by day, rogue knitter by night”, has a delightful stream of knitted eye candy, has three books of patterns, and also has an Etsy shop.

What about you? Do you ever think about writing a book of patterns or starting your own Etsy shop to show off your crafty works? Let us know!

Don’t Mess With Crafters!

This is why you never tease a crafter. We can be pretty devious.

Clever knitter and writer Annette Carter says, “Our colleague, who teased us about being knitters, returned to this after their holiday…”

Care of Magical Creatures

What a sweet idea.

Yet again, Stephanie Dosen of Tiny Owl Knits presents something magical for craft-lovers everywhere: a fantasy-inspired charm bracelet, called the Care of Magical Creatures Charm Bracelet.

This includes fifteen charms: Cheshire cat tail, cricket, Gryffindor lion, hummingbird, snitch, Ravenclaw eagle claw, ladybug, house elf sock, lilypad, Slytherin snake, sorting hat, Hufflepuff badger, HP sweater cocoon, a steak, and a Pegasus feather. (Think she’s much of a Harry Potter fan?)

You can go here to buy this super cute charm pack.

Fairies With Knitting Needles

I’m a total sucker for crafting books with a theme, and what an amazing theme this one is!

Woodland Knits by Stephanie Dosen is filled with over twenty whimsical, charming patterns that have a fairy tale-like feel, including things like a “Bo Peep Scarf” and a “Changeling Collar”.

You can make a wide variety of pieces, including hand muffs, scarves, hoods, hair ornaments, dusters, purses, mittens, sweaters, ponchos, and even fairy wings.

My favorite? It’s so hard to choose between the Oh My Bear Sweater and the Juniper Wishing Scarf. Both are so cozy, chunky, and chic.

Amazon.com chose Woodland Knits as their top craft book of 2013. Go here or here to grab your own copy!
