Shetland Wool Week, October 7th-13th!
Happy Shetland Wool Week!
These days, there aren’t many places on earth left where wool has been continuously grown, processed, knitted, and sold for centuries. But one place where this is still the case is Shetland, Scotland.
In Shetland, they really, really know their stuff when it comes to wool and knitting. Famous for their world-class natural fibers, the knitters of Shetland are responsible for maintaining their highly-regarded reputation.
One way they keep focus on themselves as world-class master knitters is by holding the Shetland Wool Week festivities, now in its fourth year. Shetland Wool Week is a celebration of sheep, textile industries, and farming communities which showcases extensive line-ups that will thrill knitters and spinners.
Events include a drop-in knitting/spinning/wheel clinic, an open weave studio, an open knitwear studio, a “make your own teddy bear” workshop, wool sorting and grading demos, color knitting demos, dyeing workshops, a Shetland knitting exhibition, a knitwear shop and factory tour, an intro to tablet weaving, spinning for beginners, and much more.
Who wants to buy us a trip to Scotland??? Ha! No, but seriously, we wish everyone involved and attending the celebration to have a great time learning. observing, and getting to know each other!
