Chic-a at Stitches West

17 Feb 2016 / 0 Comments / in Knitting/by Joanna - Chic-a Founder

Chic-a has been going to Stitches West for the last 5 years. We have some family obligations during the week of Stitches this year so we are doing something different which we are very excited about! ImagiKnits of San Francisco will have Chic-a products in their booth 317, 319, and  321 at Stitches. We are so pleased to support a local yarn store in this way.

We are excited that ImagiKnits will be debuting Chic-a’s new Duo Interchangeable Needle Case at Stitches West. Last year many people at Stitches asked if we had a case that holds 2 sets of interchangeable needles. At the time we didn’t but the idea was planted and now we have this new case. The Duo Case holds two complete sets of interchangeable needles and their corresponding cords and accessories. It is a small and compact case at 7″ x 7″, which makes it fit nicely into a project bag or purse.

ImagiKnits will also have several other popular Chic-a products in their booth. The Single and Double Yarn Keepers are show favorites. The Clear Front Zipper Pouches in the 9 inch and 14 inch sizes will also be at the booth. The Blossom Bag which stores flat and opens up into a nice project bag will also be available. Most products will be available in all the colors.
If you are heading timagiknitso Stitches this weekend stop by the
Imagiknits Booth – 317, 319, 321 – near the entrance and check out the new Chic-a products!

Have Fun!

Dressed Up Knitted Hearts

15 Feb 2016 / 0 Comments / in Knitting, Knitting Projects & Patterns/by Joanna - Chic-a Founder

Here is my update on the fun Knitted Hearts.

I spent some time this weekend dressing the hearts up with some sparkle. I love sparkle and was ready to add a lot! As I started to work on them I realized moderation was going to be better. I did not want to cover up all the knit stitches. I stuck with using just the sparkle glass beads and no sequins.

It was a lot of fun trying to decide what to do. I think my favorite ended up being the white and gold heart which has no sparkle at all! I love how  that one came together. I also really like the striped one because your heart isn’t always happy! There are times when you feel grey and there are time when you feel joy and love! The sparkle flower in the corner is the perfect accent.

Anyways, this was a fun quick project to work on. Even though I am posting it after Valentine’s Day that is ok. You can give a heart to someone you care about any time of the year!

Knit Your Heart Out!

10 Feb 2016 / 4 Comments / in Knitting, Knitting Projects & Patterns/by Joanna - Chic-a Founder

As Valentine’s Day approaches I have realized that I don’t have all my shopping done! I thought it would be fun to knit some hearts and embellish them into special Valentines. My first task was to find a pattern to knit a heart. I found one on Mollie Makes website. This pattern is really simple and knits up super fast. By my third heart I had the pattern memorized.

knitting heartI knit the hearts using different weights of yarn so they came out different sizes which was really fun. 3hearts group

I plan on embellishing them with some stitch work, beads and sequins. Once they are finished I’ll sew them to a card and give to friends and family!
It is fun to making some quick handmade items for Valentine’s day!

Happy Making!
I’ll update with finished pictures once they are all completed.

Valentine “Chocolates”

Many years ago I used to work at my local yarn shop, Knit and Pearl. I loved working there 2-3 days a week while my daughter was at school. One year before Valentine’s day we were trying to figure out the displays for the window and store. We came up with the idea of a box of yarn chocolates. Each little ball of yarn looked like a chocolate and could be “tasted” to see how it knit up. We thought about selling the little boxes of samples but we never got there as time was against us. It really just became a really nice display for the holiday. Over the years I often think back to that fun box of “chocolates” and remember all the comments the display received.

Last week I spoke with my friend Julie, the owner of Knit Pearl, and asked her if she still had the boxes. She said she did and that it was her favorite display that she had done for the store. She brought me the boxes so I could take some pictures. I told her I wanted to share the idea on my blog to inspire other store owners and knitters. Maybe you could make a box of “yarn chocolates” for your knitter friends for Valentine’s day or create a fun display for your shop.
