Fairies With Knitting Needles

01 Mar 2014 / 0 Comments / in Fun things in the Knitting World, Knitting/by Chic-a

I’m a total sucker for crafting books with a theme, and what an amazing theme this one is!

Woodland Knits by Stephanie Dosen is filled with over twenty whimsical, charming patterns that have a fairy tale-like feel, including things like a “Bo Peep Scarf” and a “Changeling Collar”.

You can make a wide variety of pieces, including hand muffs, scarves, hoods, hair ornaments, dusters, purses, mittens, sweaters, ponchos, and even fairy wings.

My favorite? It’s so hard to choose between the Oh My Bear Sweater and the Juniper Wishing Scarf. Both are so cozy, chunky, and chic.

Amazon.com chose Woodland Knits as their top craft book of 2013. Go here or here to grab your own copy!

Pattern of the Week: Colonnade from Westknits

15 Jan 2014 / 0 Comments / in Knitting/by Chic-a

Loving this trendy, pretty shawl from Stephen West of westknits. It has a unique shape and can be worn in a variety of ways, and it happens to look amazing with a jacket. Great for these last few months of winter.

Stephen West says this about his Colonnade: “Stockinette stitch and a simple lace pattern showcase the yarn and provide structured texture to the garment. A simple toggle and I-cord closure allows the garment to become a capelet or you can opt to wrap it snug around your neck.”

To grab this pattern, go here or read below.

Swants

05 Jan 2014 / 0 Comments / in Fun things in the Knitting World, Knitting/by Chic-a

Thinking about one last amazing winter project? If so, look no further. We present to you…

SWANTS!

Behold the mighty patterns, the warm thighs, and the mind-blowing style of these babies. Swants, also known as sweater pants, are quite the fashion statement. You can thank knitting mastermind Stephen West of Amsterdam for this blessing.

Stephen (who travels around teaching knitting workshops) says, “The time has come for Swants! Your booty deserves to be just as warm as your torso!”

Check out westknits.com for a full tutorial on how to make Swants, and bear in mind their warning: “It will probably take a few tries before you master the art of Swantsing. Pick a sweater you are not emotionally attached to for your first pair.”

Let your legs have their day! Good luck!

How Chic-a Began

Chic-a was founded in 2007 by Joanna Reyes. Born out of an idea to create something practical, yet fun and colorful for knitting and crochet projects, Joanna designed and crafted the Quick Draw Project Bag. Responding to immediate popularity, Joanna continued to develop products to meet the growing demand, and out of this, Chic-a was born.

After 10 wonderful years in business and meeting countless amazing people who have helped make this venture possible, the Chic-a offices are closing their doors. Our products will no longer be manufactured, but you can still find some in retail stores. Click here to find one near you.
